We've been making games with strong puzzle elements for many years, but Toki Tori 2 for Steam is the first game that will ship with a level editor from day one. With Steam Workshop support to boot!

Update 24: Steam Workshop!

Whenever we release a new game, we get a lot of requests for a level editor. Unfortunately it’s not always possible to share our internal tools. Sometimes because of licensing issues with tools we use and sometimes because they are just stupidly complex to work with. Some time after launching the original Toki Tori, we decided to improve the internal editor a bit and release it on Steam. While this spawned a neat little sharing community on the Steam forums - good work guys! - it was still a tool that took a lot of effort to get good levels out of.

So when we started working on Toki Tori 2, we decided early on that having a properly designed and deeply integrated editor would be beneficial to the overall quality of the game, but also more easily allow us to expose it to you all. The main thing we were unsure about before we could make a public announcement was how to share the user-made levels. This may sound easy, but to facilitate easy sharing and browsing for players is quite a difficult and time-consuming task.

With the arrival of the Steam Workshop, which allows players to easily share and browse user generated content on Steam, everything clicked and we decided it was time to go for it! So here we are! The latest build has a little hub level that allows you to either play through the GDC content or go into a level which you can edit to your heart’s content.

Martijn (@mreuvers) talks about the editor in the video below. Need more info? Hit me up on Twitter.

We’d love to see what you can come up with, so email your creations to .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)! We’ll play through it all and let you know what we think! I promise!
